After two years in exile, I have kept up a steady stream of page hits with searches for “testicles, men in tight shorts, flopping boobs, cutoff shorts guys, men’s bike shorts”. Some posts have a higher resonance than you expect.

WordPress and blogger have finally got up to speed, enabling me to import all of my archives. So you can find all the getting buff goodness in the archives.

Okay, I am joining the exodus. You can find me at my new blog. This will remain here for my archives (at least until I can figure out how to transfer them over).

This is my new blog.  I wasn’t unhappy with blogger but I love wordpress already as I already have been running another blog on the platform for ages.  I can’t import my other posts here, but maybe that is okay.  My blog kind of changed focus this year, so it will be interesting to see what might happen next year.

Finally had time to install a decent template. ABOUT TIME.

Since I have started this blog, I feel much more interested in writing about my exercise and lifestyle change stuff rather than trying to lose weight. Obviously that is a big part of what I am trying to do, but whenever I begin to obsess over my weight I begin to feel like a big fat whiner. So I will still post the weekly weigh ins and so on, but in my mind, the weight loss stuff is just a bonus for the other stuff going on.

I don’t want to get to the point that if I am not losing weight, I am not enjoying this blog, even though I am getting fitter and acheiving my other goals. So my commitment is that I want to continue on with this whole journey whether or not I succeed in losing weight. If in a year’s time I am the biggest fun runner in the country, well that is better than I am now. I won’t stop trying to lose weight, but I want to avoid it becoming the focus. I don’t want to count calories or points, I just want to increase the amount of fruit and veg, increase whole grains, increase water, and limit junk, fat and sugar. If I focus on health and activity and improving my physical capabilities, then I know that my body shape will change for the better.

Okay, so here is the beginning. This is a journal mainly for me to keep a record of where I have been and how I am trying to be accountable. If you do happen to come across this, then welcome.

The story so far is that my latest challenge is to get fit and lose weight, both by introducing a new exercise regime and by improving what I eat. I work in a professional capacity in an office environment. Long hours limited the amount of time I had for exercise, and put paid to the eclectic but effective exercise habits I had during university.

So now I am back, with the aim of being healthier, slimmer and engaging in some much needed stress relief by doing some exercise semi-regularly. The stats are

Starting weight – 107.5kg

Current weight – 106kg

Goal weight – 70ish kg

Starting dress size – 18-20

I aim to weigh in every Monday with the results in my weekly weigh in category. I am not really motivated exclusively by weight, so I will try and include some other indicators of how I am doing. Hopefully over time I will see some changes.

I have joined a local gym and had my first fitness assessment (results – unfit) and program preparation last night. My first program comprises about half an hour of cardio and about 4 or 5 different machine exercises. I am due for another assessment in 6-8 weeks. As a part of the assessment as well as a weight reading, I also get measurements of legs, arms, waist, hips etc. I will only be checking these when I do fitness assessments, so this is a less frequent check of my progress in these regards.

This week I am keeping a food diary for my trainer. My primary goal this week is trying to make sure that I eat breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea, dinner and supper every day, whilst trying to concentrate on eating decent food.
